Eighty-four paddlers to compete at BC Summer Games
June 22, 2018
Following trials, 84 B.C. paddlers have qualified to represent their zone at the upcoming BC Summer Games. The Games take place July 19-22 in the Cowichan Valley.
Athletes from seven of the BC Games zones will take part in multi-discipline paddling events: canoe (singles, doubles and fours), kayak (singles, doubles, and fours) and a whitewater slalom event.
Supporting the athletes are coaches from a number of CKBC coaches. The Games provide a great opportunity for young coaches to receive mentorship from experienced coaches.
CKBC joins pilot project
CKBC is also pleased to join the BC Lacrosse Association and Basketball BC as a pilot sport that includes an all Indigenous component during the 2018 BC Summer Games. The purpose of this program is to establish opportunities for Indigenous athletes, coaches and officials that will result in increased participation of Indigenous people in the BC Summer Games.
Supporting the full contingency of twelve athletes are two coaches from the recent NAIG: Crystal McCallum and Zaffia Laplante. Joining them as assistants will be Terrance Hubick-Archie and Stephan Theodore Jensen.
