Community Initiation (CanoeKids)

Community Initiation workshops (CanoeKids) is an introductory coaching course. A multi-disciplinary approach (canoe, kayak, SUP, marathon, recreation, etc..) it teaches new and inexperienced coaches the role of the coach. Ensuring coaches offer a fun and safe environment  to teach the development of some of the “FUNdamentals” stage skills and abilities for participants.

Introduction to competitions (ELCC)

Coaches must have previous coaching experience and are certified in the CanoeKids courses before registering for ELCC. Registrants have a desire to work with athletes in the sprint discipline  over the long term to improve performance, often in preparation for provincial, national, and international competitions.

In-person Coaching Course:

Instructor Intermediate (I2L2) 

I2L2 is a combined River Kayak Instructor and River Kayak Leader course. Registrants for this course must have already completed the Instructor Beginner Course at the time of registration. Learning outcomes for coaching will be the effective communication of difficult concepts and make learning in a whitewater environment fun while at the same time minimizing the risk to students. Additionally, Kayak Leaders will learn how to accurately assess each participants’ mental and physical limitations and be able to vary the length of the river run to avoid situations where the participants become frightened, cold, over-heated, bored, embarrassed, tired, frustrated or, at worst, injured.

*If your club is interested in hosting an in person coaching course, please reach out to our Sport Development Manager at development@canoekayakbc.ca. Generally speaking, in order for the in person course to be feasible, a minimum of 6 registrants is required. 

Registration: 
Registration for all coaching courses will be done on the RAMP registration system. The registration links will be active soon and everyone will be made aware when registration opens. For on-line courses, there is a max capacity of 12 registrations. In the event there is demand, additional courses may be added.
