Following individual competition at the Canadian Sprint Canoe Kayak Championships, Canoe Kayak Canada released the list of sprint athletes named to teams for the upcoming Olympic Hope regatta. Among the athletes is B.C. canoe paddler Ydris Hunter from the False Creek Sprint Canoe Club. The international competition takes place September 15 to 17 in Racice, Czech Republic.
Hunter, at this first Canadian Championships, won silver in the U16 C-1 200 and was fifth in the U16 C-1 1000. These results earned him a spot on the U16 team for the Olympic Hope regatta.
Not only am I excited for Ydris but also for his coaches Diane Tam and Laurence Chin. They've been working really hard." said CKBC Provincial Coach Blake Dalton. "This is a huge accomplishment."
Prior to competing at the Canadian Championships, Hunter was a member of Team BC at the 2017 Canada Summer Games where he competed in three finals.
