For Immediate Release

Canoe Kayak BC Announces the 2021-2022 Provincial Team

British Columbia’s top 31 sprint and slalom canoe and kayak paddlers have been selected to Canoe Kayak BC’s Provincial Team. Among the Team are Olympic Team member Brian Malfesi (Ridge) and Junior World Championship team members Nathan Christensen (Chilliwack) and Cassidy MacPherson (Ridge).

Athletes were selected based on their performances from the 2021 season. The complete selection criteria is available on the CKBC website.

"This is a great Team. We’re seeing greater depth in each discipline” said Blake Dalton, Canoe Kayak BC’s Provincial Coach. “I’ve been thoroughly impressed with each athletes’ drive and dedication despite a challenging year with Covid”

"Looking ahead, it will be a big year domestically with the Canada Summer Games and the National Championships. Based on the members nominated to the Team, it’ll be an exciting racing season!”

“A huge thank you to our excellent coaches, volunteers, clubs and key partners, including ViaSport, PacificSport and Canadian Sport Institute - Pacific. I would also like to wish the retiring 2019-2020 Provincial Team members all the best in their future endeavours. We look forward to these individuals participating in Canoe Kayak BC in the future as alumni, coaches, volunteers and officials.”

The Provincial Team kicks off their programming with the first round of off-water testing this weekend in the Lower Mainland, next week in Victoria and the following weekend in Kamloops.

The Canoe Kayak BC Performance Program recognizes and supports athletes who have a potential to make junior, U23, senior development and national teams. They have also shown a commitment to training to achieve these goals.

The team members and their coaches receive sport science resources, participation in training camps and support for various regattas, trials and championships.
