Re: CKBC Return to Competition Plan (Sprint)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Attention All Member Clubs, Coaches & Athletes:

In following up the recent CKBC membership survey, please find included in this memo a copy of the proposed CKBC Return to Competition plan for September 2020. The intent of this plan is to provide the membership further information on what a return to competition might look like. This plan is subject to change.

The general feedback from the membership survey was there is enough interest to justify trying to host Regattas prior to the weather changing this fall. This does not mean we are hosting these Regattas! Registration, availability and access to Officials, Safety People, and Volunteers will all be factors as well as health authority regulations.

A few key dates:

  • September 2, 2020 - Registration Opens.
  • September 7, 2020 (1200 pm) - Registration Deadline for September 13th Regatta.
  • September 10, 2020 - Mandatory Webinar for all Participants (Athletes, Coaches, Officials, Parents/Guardians, Volunteers) - 800pm on Zoom. If you do not attend the Webinar, you will not be able to participate in the Regatta.
  • September 13, 2020 - U16 and Up - Whonnock Lake, Maple Ridge.
  • September 21, 2020 - Registration Deadline for September 26-27th Regatta
  • September 24, 2020 - Mandatory Webinar for all Participants (Athletes, Coaches, Officials, Parents/Guardians, Volunteers) - 8pm on Zoom. If you do not attend the Webinar, you will not be able to participate in the Regatta.
  • September 26-27, 2020 - U14 and Up - Whonnock Lake, Maple Ridge.

FAQ Questions

1. We don't have a coach at the moment and are not able to pull together the logistics of getting paddlers to regattas in September. We do have one or two paddlers who were asking about racing on their own - are they able to do that or do they need to be part of a club team?

  • Athletes who do not have a coach, or their club is not participating can register as an individual. CKBC will outline a plan for those that are not participating as part of a club at the Pre-Regatta Webinar.

2. Will Whannock Lake park be closed to the general Pubic during CKBC events to facilitate the effectiveness of the regatta covid respnse plan?

  • Unfortunately the park is public access. One of the reasons we chose to wait until after Labor Day to hold an event was that traffic in the park will be slower. We will be blocking off some sections for clubs to stage, but the park will also be open to the public.
